We learned from the last X-Alps, so we are well prepared to go...after lunch at Aerosport we thought to go relaxed
without any stress...but there was no chance of doing so!
Hans and Norbert had to prepare a couple of harnesses for Team Ger 2, Ireland and Italy. To get the bus ready without any mess was a dream of us.
Anyway we had a good trip to Dachstein and we didn't forgot too much...
The briefings were organized very well and it was nice to see Kaschpi and other Pilots from X-Alps 2003 again.
It was also very nice to see, that the spirit of this competition is still as good as last time.
After the Fotoshootings and Interviews I tried to figure out the secrets of the other Teams:

Team Swiss 1
  • Kaschpi is a little bit afraid of the most lightweight equipments of some teams, he mentioned to cut away some zippers of his backpack...

Team I! taly

  • Florian, the supporter of Andy was asked to organize a little trailer for all the equipment...well this little trailer is 6 meter and Florian didn't forgot his pump up trainer! I'll try to get a shot later...

Team Swiss 2

  • Urs, the supernatural men of the mountains is arguing of all the tecnical stuff, he's even flying from time to time without any Vario...This morning he's asking us to help him configurating his display's colour

Team Austria 2

  • Everything seems to be alright...they stayed at home!

Team Swiss 3

  • Alex recognized having no walking sticks

Team USA

  • Karry is totally confused...in which direction is Monaco?

Team Greece

  • nothing special to mention...he's looking forward walking and flying through the alps

Team Ireland

  • Niki finally found her supporter 3 days before start, she seems to be well prepared....

27.07.05 Psychodelic support to gain a higher level of consciousness

To strenghten the mental balance of the athlete, we want to welcome 'Waterbeatle' as an important member of the Team. In uncertain decisions during the race we will sacrifice the wisdom and charisma of him. Furthermore his Art of playing didge and joining his ceremony of the legendary Macrocosmos Sesssions confirming energy which we certainly need to reach monaco in time!

The last week is packed with tasks like:
  • preparing the team-bus
  • branding of car and glider
  • osteopathy therapy for the ankle
  • get the hair cut (weight optimization)
  • meeting with the dentist

18.07.05 Good things come to those who wait...

The impatiently expected X-alps glider is here! Hans handed out the custom made lightweight Boomerang 4. Right after the live report of the Tour de France (Lance just passing Briancon, a place Hans and I remember very well from last X-Alps), we went for a little flight. And tell you what, the new toy is incredibly nice to fly! Thanks to Gin and Eric, they've done a good job.
Later on, the Ger I Team discussed the route towards Monte Carlo.

Manager meeting 'Team building activities'

The Amoena R&D Team went out for a journey to encourage their team spirit. The notorious Lake Chiemsee was selected, well known as a superb sailing spot with consistant easterly wind. The heavy rain situation of the days before didn't make life easier for the motivated participants.
The daily task was presented from the R&D chief: Cross the Lake with their unpredictable shouls and survive for hours on the lonesome 'island of women', search for water and foot and ship back to the secure harbour before dawn.

12 days after I hurt my ancle during mountainbiking and 12 days without any mountain walking, today I tried to charge gently my foot. Since April, when I started walking up this mountain almost each morning I never felt so confidence walking up my home mountain kampnwand, and each step upwards I felt recovered energy.

Gore Tex presents new Windstopper gear for Team Germany I

It was like a huge Christmas party, when we received the selected collection of functional equipment made for X-alps by GoreTex. Beside the ultralight Paclite materials for rainy days, the most breathable Windstopper gear and the new Airvantage jacket was presented. Hans and I are happy to have this most competent partner GoreTex for the great race! The stuff is so fashionable, it makes even us look smart.
